Cloth diaper care
Washing should be done prior to use. Most companies will tell you to wash up to 10 times. I've always said a few should be plenty unless you are washing prefolds.
Regular washing: Diapers should be washed every 2 or 3 days. They should get at least one hot rinse with diaper safe detergent. I've always done a second rinse with baking soda and vinegar. NO FABRIC SOFTENERS! They will make your diapers repellent to liquid, making them useless.
Drying is fine. Some companies say not to use the dryer with PUL or to use a low temperature. Fabrics do wear quicker when dried in the machine. Line drying is great when you can, and using the dryer is fine as well. Just stick to the normal setting and not the extra hot ones!
Other than that, throw your used diapers in a pail and wash every few days. Make sure to flush your solids unless you have a breastfeeding baby. Then you can wash it all away. Be sure to wash out your pail or get a liner you can wash as well.
Don't forget to change your baby often. Any diaper will leak if they are too full! A dry baby is a happy baby. Remember also that most diaper rash creams will stick to your diapers and make them repellent also. If you need to use a cream, put a liner in your diaper! Easy fix and everyone is happy.
